Trivia Time is an application meant to be played with friends/family in the same room, similar to that of a board game. The inspiration for Trivia Time came from the popular app, “Heads Up,” in which players play charades in the same room in order to rank up points. The idea of playing together in the same space is not common within an app, since mobile games that are player vs player are done typically through the internet and not face to face. For “Heads Up,” between 300,000 and a million games are played a day on average, but on Thanksgiving that number increases to 3 million. On New Years it grows to 4.5 million, all of which are times when families/friends get together.
A mobile application that is played similar to that of a board game is distinctive and likely to gain attention. The branding for the app is also meant to differentiate itself from its competition. Its main colors are light blue, off-white, dark gray, and orange for contrast, whereas other trivia apps tend to stick to a rainbow theme or warm colors. The design also differentiates Trivia Time from the competition in that the icon style has an offset outline, while the majority of other gaming apps have icons with no outlines at all. The typeface is a sans-serif to further the modern and clean style of the app.
